Battle Stadium Singles blog — Series 12 Announcement (Quick Take)

I say this only half-jokingly, but a most terrible fate has befallen those of us who have made the catastrophic choice of enjoying ranked singles on console enough to turn it into creative outlet, a hobby, if you will.

   First, not only has our unjustly severe term of incarceration in the Galar region been extended — by both a lack of any kind of announcement of a timetable for the rollout of Generation 9 proper, and the confirmation of the lack of ranked play in the upcoming release of Legends: Arceus — but the recent announcement of the Series 12 ruleset also bears all the hallmarks of what constitutes cruel and unusual punishment.

    Second, unfortunately, for me, despite an earnest effort, these first two months of the reheated leftovers of Series 8 (Series 11) have been enough of downer to keep me from doing any meaningful laddering to report on whatsover — the first such hiatus in three full years of doing these monthly write-ups. 

   So, then, you can imagine the wave of apprehension I was hit by upon learning that Series 12, the ruleset for the period comprising February 1st to August 31st, an unprecedented length of time for a given ruleset this generation, is just more of the same — only with the added complication of the inclusion of a second restricted pokemon into the proceedings.

  Now, I will, of course, be giving Series 12 the old college try. It does seem to me, however, that there is only so much in terms of interesting stuff going on with Ditto and Zacian plus one out and about. I always hope for the best, but, experience, unfortunately, has taught me otherwise.

   Nevertheless, here's to many an hour of fulfilling ladder experiences in the year 2022!
